Metaplanet buys another 2,205 BTC

Japanese tech firm Metaplanet has added yet another massive block of Bitcoin to its treasury, signaling a deepening commitment to the world’s leading digital asset.

The company has acquired 2,205 additional BTC, lifting its total holdings to 15,555 BTC.

This move positions Metaplanent on course to achieve its ambitious plan of holding 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027.

Today’s Bitcoin purchase cost Metaplanet ¥34.49 billion

According to company disclosures, the latest Bitcoin purchase cost approximately ¥34.49 billion, or around $238 million, with each coin bought at an average price of ¥15.64 million, roughly $108,000.

Following this acquisition, the company’s total Bitcoin holdings are now valued at approximately ¥225.8 billion, or $1.7 billion, based on recent exchange rates.

This dramatic expansion has come in less than four months, with the firm scaling from under 4,000 BTC in March to more than 15,500 BTC in July.

Metaplanet’s average purchase price across all its holdings now stands at about ¥14.52 million per bitcoin or $99,307 in dollar terms.

Notably, Metaplanet has relied on a combination of capital market tools and operational income to finance its Bitcoin buying spree.

Since officially launching its Bitcoin Treasury Operations in December 2024, the firm has leaned heavily on strategic equity-based funding mechanisms to support acquisitions.

This move not only reduced liabilities but also reinforced the company’s commitment to self-sustaining treasury growth without over-leveraging.

The funds for the recent BTC purchase came from the early redemption of a ¥6 billion bond, funded through proceeds from exercised stock acquisition rights.

Metaplanet’s BTC yield has jumped 15.1% in one week

Metaplanet’s internal metric, BTC Yield, which tracks the change in Bitcoin holdings per fully diluted share, rose sharply by 15.1% between July 1 and July 7.

This surge reflects the addition of 2,017 BTC within just one week, valued at approximately ¥31.7 billion, pointing to aggressive treasury operations in the short term.

BTC Yield is a metric unique to Metaplanet, designed to show how each share gains in Bitcoin despite potential dilution from share issuance or bond conversions.

Earlier in 2025, the company posted a BTC Yield of 95.6% for Q1 and a staggering 309.8% in the previous quarter, offering clear insight into how effectively its Bitcoin strategy is compounding value per share.

This focus on Bitcoin per share rather than fiat metrics gives investors an alternative lens through which to evaluate capital efficiency and growth.
